We are delighted to share the 18 month Autumn 2025 Update from the Effective Women’s Centre Project in Greater Manchester. To read the full report, please click here):

The 18 month report is a chance to look at what the data is telling us so far about women’s journeys into the criminal justice system and the difference that gender responsive, trauma informed support is making to their lives in Greater Manchester.

It’s clear to see that many women have been victims of crime well before they offend, with childhood abuse and unrecognised trauma behind many paths into the criminal justice system.

It’s also clear how support from a women’s centre following conviction or release can help a woman begin to rebuild her life and address the issues behind offending, such as finding stable accommodation, getting advice on debt and accessing peer support and therapeutic activities.

As members of the Effective Women’s Centres Partnership we’re committed to supporting every woman referred following criminal justice involvement and campaigning for greater use of trauma informed community sentences which allow women to address trauma and start rebuilding their lives.
